In March of 2020, the rest of the world was perfecting their sourdough bread baking skills during an unprecedented global lockdown. Kat, an avid crafter having already become bored with crocheting stuffed animals and hand embroidery projects, purchased a sewing machine with an embroidery arm attachment. While she has still not mastered sewing, she taught herself machine embroidery, upgraded to a multi-needle embroidery machine, and has been obsessed with the activity ever since.

While Kat’s embroidery hobby may have stemmed from a desire to embroider everything her daughter, Elizabeth, has worn from infancy, Flossy Flamingo was born out of demand from Elizabeth’s friends for her fun and festive clothing. 

“Flossy Flamingo” is a nod to Elizabeth’s first friend, a flossy flamingo named Penny who is a well-traveled, much-loved, and honored member of the family.
